According to theory; and since the universe is three dimensional, the information membrane of the universe is 2D. So therefore that which is outside the universe is one dimensional. Hence all of creation including time must move in one direction because the limit is set by that which limits the 2D membrane of the universe. This all necessitates such mathematical behaviour. Hence (one dimensional) strings. Then the like-wise affected higher dimensions are present deeper than the quantum level; beyond the scope of the eye. The Earliest; 1st dimension causes all subsequent dimensions to only have singular subsequent layers/stages/membranes; one after the other.
The 4th dimension is basically everything that can possible happen; including multiverses. This is all time. But what makes time linear is the 1st Dimension which is outside the membrane of our universe. The 1st Dimension also makes every other dimension linear; particularly from dimension 2-4. The 1st dimension is the strings of string theory.
